West of Pecos

West of Pecos - Texas-style, ranch-theme, and southwestern-ish food at this cute spot on Valencia x 16th in the Mission. We were missing our fourth limb today, because Steph is ONE week from giving birth to her baby girl! We reminisced about how many kids have been born in our group since the start of Restaurant Club in May 2005!!!  It's crazy: Katya, Matthew, Nick, Izzy, and soon - baby Wiley. We agreed that R. Club shall continue so long as we are living and able :)

Food highlights: brussel sprouts (sounds bizarre, but this app was sweet, crispy, with some kind of delicious creamy sauce), and the lobster (or crab?) salsa thing was also pretty amazing. Green chile mac n cheese was mediocre. Gail and I ordered the artichoke filled with crab and shrimp for dinner. Very creative, and I thought, delicious. Not too heavy. Dionne had the big, juicy burger.

I loved the mousse we had for dessert because it was thicker than most.

Overall - great food, loud, but cute environment, and best of all, as usual: amazing company.

This was 12/7/13 - Gail's pick!

Xo.

Frisson

First ever meeting of the Restaurant Club! This swanky Financial District restaurant/lounge was the perfect choice to kick of our new R. Club (ultimately, Frisson to close down). After hearing Dionne state that she didn't want a drink due to a supposed hangover from the night before, the truth came out that she was preggers (with Matty). We got a free bottle of wine from Gail's friend, JP. The atmosphere was better than the food here. Just the beginning of years of fun... 5/20/05

Opaque: Dining in the Dark

(Dionne's pick). Was quite a trip to dine int eh dark. We couldn't see anything, it was pitch black!! Was scary at first, then fun, then hilarious. The service SUCKED - it was the waiter's first day. And he told us to be quieter because I guess someone was complaining. Food was not even that good, except for the first course of tuna tartare. Very overpriced ($99 pp), plus then booze (stemless glasses). Kind of a rip. 4/25/09.
